Son of Mr. and Mrs. Grundy, West Ryton and Crawcrook Social Club, Poplar House, Main Street, Crawcrook, Ryton on Tyne, Co. Durham. Wife resided in the Doncaster area.
Notes : Matthew's parents, at the time of his death, were Steward and Stewardess of Crawcrook Social Club. He had been one of the first volunteers for the Commandos and had been out in North Africa since November 1942. His wife was on war service in the Doncaster area. Another son of a previous Steward and Stewardess of the Social Club, Samuel Goodwin Thompson, had died of wounds received in action in July 1940, whilst serving with the Merchant Navy.
