Next of kin is given as John Robson, father, of 125 Durham Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland. A brother, John, lived at the same address.
Notes :
Samuel sailed with his unit from Montreal on 29th May 1915 on board SS Northland. His unit spent some time in England before he embarked for France on 17th September 1915. Following being wounded in action he was admitted to the 3rd Casualty Clearing Station at Popperinge, 13th April 1916, with gunshot wounds to his left shoulder. The origin of the wound is given as St. Eloi. He was operated on to remove the bullets. He was transferred to the 3rd Canadian General Hospital at Boulogne, where he spent ten days. He was again transferred, 22nd April 1916, this time to England where he was admitted to the Duchess of Connaught Canadian Red Cross Hospital, Taplow, Buckinghamshire. Again he was transferred on 27th May 1916 to the Canadian Convalescent Hospital, Hillingdon House, Uxbridge. Following a medical examination he was discharged and returned to duty on 2nd June 1916.
Samuel had previously served with the 32nd and the 15th Reserve Battalions. He was transferred to the 28th Battalion on 16th February 1917.
