Family Details:
Son of Margaret and William Armstrong, of 13 Emmaville West Ryton on Tyne, Co. Durham. Husband of Ellen Armstrong, of 12 Fell View, Crawcrook, Ryton on Tyne, Co. Durham (later of 3 Alders Yard, Felling Shore, Co. Durham). John's brother, William Armstrong, died in Sedgefield Lunatic Asylum, Co. Durham, from the effects of shell shock in February 1917, having first served with the Coldstream Guards and then with the Royal Engineers.
