Son of Thomas Waugh and Frances Waugh (nee Coulthard) of Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Grandson of John and Margaret Waugh, of Pit Heap, Woodside, Ryton on Tyne, Co. Durham, and Ralph and Jane Coulthard, late of Barmoor, Ryton on Tyne, Co. Durham. Aunt and Uncle; Robert and Mary Gardner, 56 Burnhills Gardens, Greenside, Ryton on Tyne, Co. Durham. Uncle: Edward.
Notes : Mother, Francis, was formerly of Barmoor, West Ryton and father, Thomas, was formerly from the Crawcrook area. Stanley had arrived from Canada in 1938 to join the RAF. He spent most of his time on leave at his grandparent's home at Woodside, and at his aunt and uncle's, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gardner, of Greenside. An uncle, Ted, worked as a teacher at Greenside Council School. It is believed that Stanley's aircraft was returning from air operations after being hit by enemy fire. The aircraft crashed into the sea and Stanley's body was found washed up on shore. His remains were returned to Ryton on Tyne where he was accorded a full military funeral. The pall bearers at the funeral were eight members of the RAF and a large number of soldiers from the Border Regiment acted as escorts.
