Notes :
John enlisted in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, 6th January 1915. He was then drafted to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, 1st August 1915 to serve in the Gallipoli campaign, Turkey. He joined Hawke Bn on 20th August 1915 but barely a month later he succumbed to dysentery. He was eventually invalided to the UK on 8th October 1915. When recovered from his illness John was drafted to join the British Expeditionary Force as a Bomber, 31st July 1916. He then joined Nelson Bn, 16th September 1916.
