Son of John and Elizabeth Scott of Ryton on Tyne, Co Durham. Nephew of Mrs Janet Avis of 15 Tweedy's Buildings, Ryton on Tyne, Co. Durham.
Notes : William enlisted on 31st May 1915. He proceeded to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force and embarked on HM Transport Northlands and arrived at Alexandria, Egypt, 17th December 1915. He joined Hawke Bn at Mudros on 7th February 1916. He rejoined Hawke Bn following Pyrexia (origin unknown), 5th December 1916.
