Son of the late Elizabeth Jefferson of Ryton on Tyne, Co. Durham, who died 28th April 1900, aged 42, and son of F W Jefferson, who died in Canada on 11th June 1929, aged 69. The Jefferson's formerly lived at the Woodlands, Hexham, Northumberland. Husband of Daisy Mary Elizabeth Jefferson (nee Davidson) of Delegate Hall, Fellside, Hexham, Northumberland.
Wilfred was given permission by his commanding officer to marry Mary, 30th December 1915. The ceremony took place in Hexham Abbey.

Wilfred enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force, 26th August 1915. Embarked from Halifax, Nova Scotia, on SS Lapland, 23rd October 1915. Arrived in England, 30th October 1915. Appointed Lance Corporal at Bramshott, 11th February 1916. Was deducted one days pay for a misdemeanour carried out 9th April 1916. Appointed acting Corporal, 26th July 1916. Embarked for France, 10th August 1916. Disembarked at Havre, 12th August 1916. Confirmed rank of Corporal in the field.
Wilfred was a keen footballer and had played for Northern Star FC. He also gave demonstrations of Indian club swinging at St Wilfred's Institute, Hexham.
