William's memorial plaque was given to a member of the Ryton and District War Memorials Project by the incumbent at St John's Church, Greenside, in 2006. It is believed that it was originally displayed in the Church of the Good Shepherd, Clara Vale. The Church was demolished some years ago.

Son of Joseph and May Ann Harrison, and husband of Janet Harrison (nee Johnstone) of 10 Edington Gardens, Clara Vale, Ryton on Tyne, Co. Durham.
The Harrison's, a mining family, originally came from the Castle Eden area.
Brothers: Thomas William (a Colliery Engine Driver), and John Brunskill (a Blacksmith). Sister: Hannah. The father, Joseph, was born at Ingleton, Co. Durham, and was a Heap Inspector/
Check Weighman. The mother, Mary Ann (nee Brunskill), was born at Firtree, Co. Durham.

Five weeks before his death, William had returned to Clara Vale on leave and married his sweetheart, Janet Johnstone, on 11th February 1918, at the Wesleyan Church, Ryton on Tyne. Co. Durham.
Anecdotal evidence claims that William was killed in camp by an incoming mortar round whilst he was relaxing having a cup of tea.
