Notes :
James enlisted in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve on 7th October 1914. He was drafted to join the British Expeditionary Force on 22nd August 1916. After a period of sickness he rejoined Hood Bn, 3rd April 1917. He was rated a Petty Officer, 24th April 1915. A Chief Petty Officer 4th October 1915 and reverted back to Petty Officer, 7th October 1916.
James's name appears on the Addison Colliery War Memorial. At some stage, he must have also worked at the colliery.
