Family Details:

Son of Margaret Mitchinson of 3 Emmaville, Ryton on Tyne, Co. Durham. Fred's brother, Albert Ernest, died on 24th February 1917, aged 9 years 11 months, and his father, John, died in January 1918. John Mitchinson was born 1861. Margaret Mitchinson (nee Martin) was born 1865. Their sons: John William, born 1894. Francis, born 1892. Thomas Hylton, born 1902. Joseph Sidney, born 1904. Albert, born 1907. Their daughters: Mary Elizabeth, born 1887. Annie May, born 1888. Margaret Hannah, born 1890. Nora Ellen, born 1896.

Notes :

Fred had started work at Emma Colliery on 16th June 1913. He left to join the Royal Navy, 6th November 1917. A veteran of the Zeebrugge raid, Battle of the Mole, he manned a motor launch during the raid. Served on HMS Victory (shore based), 7th November 1917 up to 18th January 1918 as an Ordinary Seaman. Fred was buried with full military honours with the union flag draping his coffin. The funeral took place from his home address and was attended by family, friends and Royal Navy personnel. His shipmates carried him to the horse drawn hearse.
