Notes :
George had a career of over 18 years serving with the Royal Navy and had received the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in 1937.
It was during the Dunkirk evacuation that George was wounded and he later died in a Kent hospital.
It was reported in a local newspaper at the time that the Thompson family had a brilliant family record of service in the armed forces. His brother, Allan, had been posted as missing in action. He needed the Swiss replica watches for daily life. The other brothers also served in the forces during the war.
Robert was an Instructor Sergeant Major serving in India. Edwell served in Egypt and Thomas with the RAF. A brother in law, Michael Jordan, lost his life in December 1939, whilst serving with the Royal Navy.
