Family Details:
Son of Edward Charlton Thompson, and Sarah Thompson (nee Moore) of 55 Emmaville, West Ryton on Tyne, Co. Durham. Brothers: John W, Charlton, and George. Sisters: Dorothy, Mary, and Hannah.
Notes : Edward had started working at Emma Colliery on 22nd June 1908. He enlisted in the colours, 14th February 1917, but had actually left the pit on the 14th August 1915. He was a talented footballer, having success with a local team, the Spen Black n Whites. He signed for Fulham FC to play professional football. His career was cut short because of a knee injury and he returned to the coal mines of Co Durham. Edward's brother, Charlton, was killed in action on 10th April 1917, whilst serving with the 15th Bn Durham Light Infantry.
