Frank's father, Harold, was killed in action during World War 1 in September 1915, whilst serving with the East Yorkshire Regiment.
Frank had served eleven years in the forces up until the time of his death.
He was Mentioned In Despatches for his bravery in saving a hospital from being destroyed by fire. He had also seen action in North Africa.
It was during the D Day Landings that Frank earned his Distinguished Conduct Medal for bravery. His citation read: Sergeant Milburn held his fire and controlled his section until he was able to engage the enemy at point blank range. His efforts was described as the highest courage that contributed to the success of the Airborne Operations.His mother received his posthumous DCM from King George VI at Buckingham Palace.
