The Suggett family were for many years connected with the Centenary Methodist Church, Main Street, Crawcrook. Phoebe Suggett provided a beautiful brass plaque to commemorate her husband. The plaque hangs in the gallery of the Centenary Church.
The father, Samuel Suggett, was prominent in the 1926 General Strike at a local level with the Clara Vale Miners Lodge. He and other Clara Vale Miners opposed the introduction of Blacklegs (those who wanted to work as others were on strike). Samuel along with his work mates were summoned to appear at Gateshead Magistrates Court under the Emergency Powers Act, for misdemeanours carried out within the area.
