Son of William and Sarah Russell, of Ryton on Tyne, Co. Durham. Husband of Isabel Bradley (formerly Russell), of 62 Sidney Street, Blyth, Northumberland.
Notes : Matthew had enlisted in the colours in October 1914. The 20th and 23rd Bns, Northumberland Fusiliers attacked to the north of La Boiselle and were practically wiped out. Isolated groups penetrated the enemy trench positions.
