Parents: William and Isabella Hogg (nee Armstrong) of Gateshead, Co. Durham. Married in Ovingham, Northumberland, 22nd September 1866. Wife: Catherine Hogg. Married at St Cuthbert's Church, Gateshead,2nd April 1898. The Stella Coal Company attempted steps to evict the Hogg family from Donn's House following Richard's death. Catherine managed to prevent this from happening and took lodgers in so the rent could continue to be paid. Catherine died on 20th January 1969. Children: father of ten children. James, born 1900; Kate, born 1901; Selina, born 1902; Richard, born 1903 (served in the RAF in the Second World War and was a Physical Training Instructor and acted as boxing coach to Douglas Bader); Margaret, born 1905; Thomas, born 1908; Joseph, born 1909; William Cooper, born 1911; Eva, born 1913; Catherine, born 1914. Brothers: Six. Thomas, born 1867; William Armstrong (worked at Emma Colliery and served as Private 4/9745 20th Bn Durham Light Infantry and was killed in action on 9th August 1917); Francis, born 1875; Surtees, born 1882 (of Spencer's Buildings, Ryton on Tyne, Co Durham); Edward, born 1883; Robert, born 1893 (worked at Emma Colliery and also lived at Spencer's Buildings, Ryton on Tyne, Co Durham). Notes : Richard Hogg was a member of the Emma Division of the St John's Ambulance Brigade. On 1st July 1916, Richard was serving as a stretcher bearer in his battalion.
